Hamas

Do you know what Hamas stands for?

“So it was that, in January 2006, Hamas, which means ‘zeal’ in Arabic, was victorious while Fatah, which means ‘conquest’, was defeated. It was a surprise victory but a comprehensive and democratic one, in elections widely regarded as the freest ever held in the Arab world.

Many, particularly in the West, could not understand how the Palestinians could elect an armed extremist faction that made no secret of one of its main goals – the end of a Zionist state in Palestine. Especially as in presidential elections just twelve months before they had voted for Arafat’s successor, Mahmoud Abbas a man openly critical of the path of the gun. The answer lies in the profoundly different perceptions of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Where Israel’s supporters see a small, vulnerable Jewish state surrounded by Arab enemies, Palestinians see a nuclear regional superpower backed by the US which seeks to control, or even expel, them. In summary, where the world saw a vote for Hamas as a setback for the peace process, many Palestinians saw no evidence of a peace process, so voted for Hamas.”

Why do people call the IDF a terrorist organisation simply because they have killed more people? If Hamas bombs a school bus and kills 12 school children, what would constitute a reasonable response in your country? Find a Palestinian school bus, bomb it and kill an equal number of school children? Israel had always responded with proper military action. They bomb militants in their homes because there are no conventional military installations. Yes, more than 12 children are killed. If not that, then what would e a reasonable response from Israel?
